Okoume plywood and its applications
Okoume, scientifically named as Aucoumea klaineana, is a tree in the family Burseraceae, was first introduced in 1896 by French biologist J.B. Louis Pierre. This is a tropical plant, widely distributed in Africa, Asia, and South America. This species of tree can grow up to 30 meters tall depending on the geography. Okoume wood has a beautiful dark reddish-brown color, a fine grain, and is easy to work with and manipulate. The wood has low elasticity, a light density of 0.54 (15% moisture), and is not highly resistant to termites. This type of wood is commonly used in the industrial wood sector, often utilized as the surface for various types of industrial plywood used in the production of furniture as well as construction: tables, chairs, kitchen cabinets, and so on. the internal components of ships and airplanes in the 1950s.
In India, Okoume plywood is very popular. Almost all retail dealers, regardless of size from small to large, sell Okoume plywood products. There are many reasons for people to choose, such as colors that match their tastes, low production costs, and ease of handling. The okoume surface has natural grain patterns, giving users a “real wood” feels. With a long-standing plywood manufacturing background, factories in India can easily address issues related to the surface of Okoume wood. Therefore, the plywood products here have a uniform surface quality in terms of color and high aesthetic value. Not only that, the ability to resist termites and dead eyes has also been improved.
